Wedding was beautiful ..Music choices were emotional…Opening song was You are the Reason…which I heard for the first time this week on AGT.. sung by Kodi the blind autistic young man… It gives me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes yesterday…For some reason tears were flowing at the drop of a hat…messed up a bit on the reading but I’m over it today !
Low light of the Mass…. My mother did make to church however… She blurted out ” Where’s my wheelchair.. I wanna get out of here ” !!!! Granted my mother is 93 but her mind is sharp as a tack…My sister and I were mortified… and my 2 of my brothers laughed…….NOT FUNNY…Just because you are 93 does not give you the right to be rude and disrespectful at such a long awaited ceremony …Needless to say… I am on my mothers sh..t list..
After 5 years of my daily visits… and then some..seems like she has alienated me as well as 5 of my six siblings…She also mentioned this morning that she is not interested in our Sunday family gathering…Well all I have to say is that without my help… she will not be able to maintain her independent living..
I am so upset .. I can’t see straight….
Going to take today and take care of myself…

oh gaga—Vent all you want! Of course you are going to be emotional. You are going through ’empty nest’ right now. Even though you didn’t give birth to your nephew it sounds like you stepped in and was his mom for a lot of his life. And weddings can bring out all sorts of emotions. I’m so sorry about your mom. You certain don’t deserve this. You are a wonderful, loving, caring person. You give so much of yourself to her and it’s a thankless job. I’m glad you are taking the day to take care of yourself. Would it be possible to get the rest of the siblings to chip in and have the home health worker come in more often so you don’t have to go there every day? Or, this might sound harsh, but it might be time for a home. I will probably be facing this same thing with my aunt soon. I might try and move her in here with us, but if it threatens my marriage, my mental health or sanity…she’s going to have to go to a home, and she will hate me for it. BTW, my dh totally would have laughed at your moms outburst and I would have had to give him the stink eye. 😉

gaga – i’m so glad the wedding was beautiful. you are welcome to rant & vent – you know a lot of us relate to your situation! my grandmother could be hard on us. my sister had a totally different relationship with her because it was just surface level – she got to talk to her on the phone & never had to do anything to help care for them – it’s a totally different level when you are the care taker – you get all of the hard stuff, and they take out their frustrations on you – it is hard! i am glad you are taking care of yourself. maybe that’s a good idea for you to do that for yourself this weekend. you deserve it!
i am so glad my mother wants her independence and wants to live in assisted living – she knows living here is not best for our relationship. we bought this house with a guest ensuite on the main floor for her, but since she has long term care insurance, and she likes the social aspects of senior living, she prefers that. it’s great for her and great for us. sometimes they think “going to a home” means they get dropped off somewhere bad & get ignored, but that is so not her experience at all. she loves the activities and having her meals with her buddies – it gives her more freedom and more options

Dee, dip the slices in lemon juice .it stops them from browning!
If transporting you could do a solution of lemon juice and water.
That way they don’t brown and don’t soak up too much lemon juice! Hope that helps.

Gaga, sounds like a beautiful wedding. Sorry about your mother. Mines been cranky lately, and she lives in a elderly community.
It gives her her own space. I love her but she can be demanding at times. And outspoken too.. we just kinda laugh it off because it’s not worth getting upset over. Others understand, don’t let it bother you ok? It’s very common for elderly peeps to talk like that. And it is a thankless job to care for those you love when they grow older..just remember you have a right to your own life too. And don’t feel guilty about that! Hugs!

Thanks to all for the words of support…really needed them ..So nice to know that you all care..
April…The nephew that was married Friday is older than my Buddy who is attending OSU.. He is my older sister’s son and has two stable parents and a great home life…had a close relationship with him throughout his life but in a different way…He has a great mom who was and always has been there for her boys…In my opinion I don’t think you should move your aunt in with you…so much time. energy and responsibility ..Your whole life would change…she may be upset for a short time.. but once settled ..she may be happy in her new home ! So much to think about but I am sure you will make the right decision for you and your husband…
Chants… my mom has a forked tongue..critical..nothing is ever right..and at times down right nasty ! It sure doesn’t help that she is an alcoholic and I realize most time that it is the alcohol talking but so many things she says are hurtful… I guess after 5 years of daily added responsibility ..worry..and little help from siblings.. I had a meltdown… But better today and reset my mental attitude … ready to move on !!
moms.. I am sure that brings so much peace of mind that your mom is happy and settled into her ” home”.. I am also sure it was a big decision for both of you..and seems like it was the best one !
dee… I forgot to mention the cake..It was a simple 3 tiered cake (squares) made of red velvet /white cake buttercream frosting..delicious !
The bride and groom cut the cake early in the reception and first piece was smeared all over my nephew’s face..although I gotta say that I am not a fan of that tradition but he was a good sport and he did not reciprocate ..
Sounds like you are going on a picnic ! Hope you are going to do some fishing and bird watching…Hope you have a great time !

gaga—Red velvet/buttercream frosting….yum! I’m glad you took the day yesterday for yourself and are feeling better. You’ve had a lot on your plate and we all have a breakdown now and then. My aunt asked to live with us when she knows she is dying! Like it will be okay because there will be an ‘end’ in sight. She’s a little morbid. She’s chain smoked all her life so we fully expect cancer to be coming up soon if it’s not already in her. That’s what happened to her mother (my grandma). It might not be feasible to move her all the way here by the time she gets sick enough to not live on her own anymore. And I know you are right. It’s hard though, when she lays a guilt trip on me or says she’s rather die than go into a ‘home.’
moms—How wonderful you mom loves her assisted living community! That has to give you such peace of mind that she’s happy and doing her own thing.

Gaga, sorry about your mom, that’s got to be very stressful on you. My mom was living with one of my sisters, but she wanted her own place, so we moved her to a community hoping she’d make friends get involved in stuff. Well at first she loved having her own place..but said the other residents were too old for her! She’s 82! Lol, then she said that the events at community center were terrible, and tge food horrible…then came the “I’m so lonely” guilt trip. Ugh! Sooo one of my sisters got her a dog as hers passed a few years ago. At first she was happy, then said the dog was too much for her!

We all told her you wanted her, now you need to get used to her! Needless to say the dog is keeping her so busy she’s not lonely anymore, and has gotten her out meeting people, so it’s actually been good for her. The dog has made her get active again. And she’s not guiltily us about being lonely anymore. When we get together though she gets cranky with us, and her mouth starts running,! Nothing seems to be what she really wants these days. And though it’s not as bad as what you deal with, I do understand. You’re a good daughter! She’s lucky she has you!
