Choco – Sorry about the scholarship issue! Crazy!

My oldest dd called yesterday frustrated about some last minute requirements that her college sprung on her! Plus, she asked specifically at the office how long orientation would be and they said 1 1/2 hours in the morning, so she took off the necessary time from work to accommodate that only to find out that it was the rest of the afternoon, too! What? Really? It is amazing to me how complicated things can be!

Gaga – Thanks for explaining about the nephews! 😉 I agree that 17 would be too young to be married!

Got my appreciation gift – thanks for the reminder!

Hey all! BOY there’s been a lot going down in Puma Town. All of our friends are starting preschool- we’re staying home another year. I’ve still got hopes to homeschool through Kindergarten.

Our kitty Clover goes outside on a tie out, and we keep an eye on her thru the window. The other night, a (friendly) loose dog came tearing through the yard, and she raced up our maple tree. THANKFULLY she has claws still, and was on her long tether! She ended up close to 15 feet in the air, way out on a limb. Husband and I set up the extension ladder, and I climbed up. Cat didn’t move. There was no way I could reach her where she was on the limb, so husband thought he’d give it a try. As soon as he stepped foot on the ladder and started up, darned if this cat didn’t turn around and begin scooting backwards towards him! She reached the main trunk of the tree and let him pluck her off and carry her down. Once back inside, we fed her handfuls of treats and wet food, and she just snarfed it up- didn’t try to run or hide. She just sat and washed and purred and let us pet her, and she’s such a bizarre, exceptional, weirdo cat. Who obviously loves husband a heck of a lot! She’s just got a few torn claws that should be better in a few days. All in all, everything came out better than expected!

I finally adopted my Tigerlily kitten. I realized that Susanna means “Lily”- perfect! GUYS she’s so cute! I can’t EVEN. <3 She's wearing the new sandals, and ROCKING them.

    Good morning!

Queen, glad to see you back on the blog!! I totally understand your dd’s frustration over the last minute requirements her college sprung on her! I remember when I went through my first year of college, the school required me to be there for SEVERAL days worth of orientation in a ROW, all of which went ALL day long. I was NOT happy about that!!! One of the days they got pizza and were going to serve it at the end of the day, and as soon as we got to that part I asked a staff member there if I could go and I just decided to walk the 1.4 miles to get home… As you can probably tell, I certainly don’t have fond memories of my time there. Hoping you dd has a better experience than I did, though!

Puma, I’m so sorry to hear about the incident with your cat! Yikes! Glad your husband was about to get poor kitty out of the tree and back inside without too much trouble!

littleleaf, the Tawny Lion Cub floaty goes through today. So, last day to try and get those new googles! Also, I’d love to trade for some of your Snow White stuff!! Is there anything you are looking for at the moment besides PSFs?

gaga, what good luck! Yes, go get yourself that lottery ticket!!

Gotta go get caught up on WI now, too!

gaga—We are enjoying all the summer we can here! The weather isn’t cooperating very much lately but hoping to get a few more nice days once Stella is done with meds. Bro, SIL and all four teenage kids are coming to visit this weekend! Yikes…so much to do. Bros oldest boy (who will turn 18 next month) is the one that got me into this wonderful game. I will be thinking of you moving your nephew into college. I know it will be wonderful and tearful. I’m glad you and sister will be together.

moms—Thanks! You got that right! LOL So glad I was home. Those ?? Boxes drive me crazy. I can never seem to get all the items. Glad Emma and gaga got you covered!

Emma—I have a Flamingo Lazy River Ride for you. I will send it over.

If anyone has an extra Morning Glory Wallpaper, I have a Morning Glory Chair, Geyser Pool or Delightful Patio Plant to trade.

QoS—Welcome home! I’m very sorry to hear about your fathers results. Prayers for successful treatment.

    Puma—Glad kitty is okay…scary.

Kinda skimmed through posts this morning…will check back. Gotta run! Hope all have a good day!

Puma – I homeschooled my “littles” through kindergarten, and continued until they graduated from high school. Ha ha! One year at a time! …..
Glad Clover is okay! Scary for her! ….. Susanna is a perfect name for the Tiger Lily Kitty!

April – All the best as you prepare for company! Does that 18 year old nephew still play Webkinz? I think I know the answer to that, but thought that I’d ask anyway.

Otter – My oldest dd has only one more year. She was one of the few accepted into an intensive one-year grad program. She is so glad that she is about to be done with this! This is the daughter that never wanted to go to college but managed to graduate in May with a 4.0!!! Anyway, I’m very proud of her for pursuing it despite her unwillingness and the learning challenges she faces. She is pursing Social Work and it is the perfect fit for her!

I didn’t take advantage of appreciation day specials with exception to the free sandals. How nice to have a place where you can help each other out with desired items! Moms – glad that you got what you were hoping for!

Gaga – Not sure about time for myself! Totally frustrated with papers misplaced before my trip that I need NOW! Things were so chaotic before I went. Meanwhile, I am going crazy trying to find what I need! I wish that I were a more organized person.

Today I take my 18 year old cat for blood-work. Took her to the vet yesterday and just wishing I had them do it then.. But I wanted to talk it over with my dh before spending the $$$.

It looks like I am being forced to play the desktop APP version of Webkinz today. Nothing works in my browsers despite all the tricks of the trade that helped me to get it working this past weekend.

QoS!! *pounce* YOU HOMESCHOOLED?! And you did it for YEARS!? TEACH ME, SENSEI! Do you recommend any curricula? I have several in mind for thru about 1-2 grade, but I don’t know about after that. Maybe he’ll go to school in Middle school? Maybe HS? I guess I thought he’d be mostly self-guided by that point… We’re going to be secular homeschooling, and it’s hard to find secular resources out there. Did you do any extra tutoring (Sylvan? Kumon?) for subjects you weren’t particularly strong at teaching? Did you manage to find a homeschooling group of moms to help with the social and peer side of homeschool? Kiddo LOVES other kids, and I fret he’ll miss out on that crucial social development once all his friends are in school 5 days a week. Did anyone harangue you about the bureaucracy and paperwork involved? Since that whackadoodle family in Cali made national news, lots of places are cracking down on homeschoolers.

Also, QoS, my internet Webkinz isn’t working either. Adobe won’t run. I’ve been on the desktop all week.

  33. 33 Queen of Sheba (WWID: Royalmajesty) said,

    August 14, 2019 @ 3:09 pm

Puma – Yep! 24+ years! We did it for religious reasons, though, so I’m not as familiar with the secular homeschooling world, although one of the groups I belong to is secular. Homeschooling wasn’t popular when we started. Our families were skeptical. However, we lived in an area that had a homeschool support group which was invaluable! There are so many different methods of homeschooling that it can be overwhelming to process it all. From what I have read of your parenting style, you are on the right track! 🙂 Check with your state homeschool association for legal requirements. Even if they are not secular, they can give you valuable information. Finding connections in your community is helpful for friendships & play dates. My husband tutored my oldest son with math, and for the others we were part of a homeschool co-op that helped with the more challenging subjects. I didn’t use private tutors, but I have friends that did. And that Cali family! Shame on them for bringing a bad name on something that can be so wonderful! I was so sad when I heard about that situation!

Still irritated by the scholarship situation. Haven’t heard anything since the other day so I’m just gonna pay off the balance and hope I have enough for books.
Long orientations sound obnoxious and unnecessary. The one I attended only lasted about an hour or two, but I applied as a transfer student, so who knows how long their freshmen orientation is.

Puma- Glad your cat is already. Bet that would have been scary.

Otter- I agree with Choco, day long orientations seem unnecessary. Bet you a lot of people would just skip out on it. I never went to my orientation before post secondary. It was only a few hours, but wasn’t required.

Queen- I have yet to switch over to the desktop APP. Haven’t had problems with the browser version and I don’t see the need to switch over yet.

Finally all caught up with reading the comments.

Choco – I really hope that scholarship situation comes through sooner rather than later. I hate to suggest trying the classes without textbooks, but my kids have skipped the textbooks at times. It may depend on how heavily the text is used in the class.

    Good afternoon, everyone! Happy Wednesday!

Trying to catch my breath … it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks! And another one still to come, and then, finally! We’ll be empty nesters. 🙂 (not counting the days or anything!) Was never really in a hurry to get the kids out of the house, but the transition period is the worst, so I just want to get through it. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, to Cassie for the final piece I was missing from the Space Theme! So glad to knock that off the list, and I had just the place for it to go. 🙂 Would love to know what you are looking for so I can return the favor if I can.

And thank you for all of the PSF food that keeps rolling in even though I’ve been AWOL for so long … it’s like little Christmas presents all week long. I have had fun collecting and sorting them.

Dee, my favorite ground beef recipe is Tator Tot Casserole. Totally not healthy, but great comfort food. Let’s see … 1 lb. ground beef, 1 can of cream-of-anything soup, 1 can of milk, top with tater tots, bake for an hour? I’ll have to check how long … I can’t remember the time or temperature.

I have to admit, Gaga, I tuned in the day after your dental appointment just to see how you did with your tooth. I had one pulled as a teenager (bad root canal), and I have never really missed it. The pain was gone instantly, which was such a relief after fighting with it for so long. I was hoping you had a similar experience. 🙂

I played WackyER Zingoz as much as I could possibly stand (I despise that game). One time I got to 11480 and died. One time I got past 11500 but didn’t get a prize. But despite it all, I got an extra poster and an extra set of headphones, but no rug. So if anyone wants one of my extras or wants to swap for a rug, that’s the only one I missed.

I also have extras of the Safari Vintage Goggles if anyone didn’t get them!

Was only able to get one pair of sandals … I can get it to work about half the time, but thanks, Moms, for the tips! I’m still perfecting my method, apparently.

Sorry again for popping in so infrequently … I think in about two weeks, the busy-ness will subside and I’ll be able to think again. Right now it is constant. But I wouldn’t miss it for anything. 🙂

So glad you all are in my life, though. Keep being amazing and encouraging to everyone.

and the caretaker and kiddo meet once a month with other parents doing it and play and have like a pot luck type thing

Dee, I’ll totally look into the HIPPY program. That sounds like fun! ALSO YES BOB books! I can’t wait until we’re ready to use them.

QoS, apparently our county has a good homeschool community, but I’ve yet to find many of them, and we might clash because of strong non-religious beliefs, but I hope not (we ARE in the Bible Belt, though). The library has homeschool days- I’ll have to go to one soon!

I discovered this curriculum: https://www.oakmeadow.com/ It looks perfect for us for kindergarten and first grade looks incredible! Recorders! Knitting! First aid! Crafting! Types of clouds! Using a compass! Animal tracks! Using a globe!

Also FINALLY finished Whimsy Skies last night! *whew* It actually wasn’t as brutal as it has been in the past!

puma – when i was looking in to options, i like the idea of a “hybrid” program so that they went to school a couple of hours a week twice a week, then that school was responsible for the testing & state requirements. it didn’t seem like there were many secular options though. i can tell you middle school sucks, and i don’t think i would throw anyone in for those years! home school isn’t a good option for my youngest, but i would have gone hybrid or private if i could have a do over . . .
