Counting Down to Christmas

Thank you TLL for gathering all of this information for us!
This year’s Christmas gift choices. And yay, they spelled “homemade” correctly on the poster!

Aaaaaand here’s this year’s Ms. Birdy Countdown gifts. The Flashy Side Table goes with the items from this year’s Candy Cane Collection. The Snowman Earmuffs match the Snowman Toque and Snowman Slippers from 2015’s Christmas Countdown. And the Festive Cookie Jar will sure look great in those gingerbread rooms we all created last year.

And here’s the Super Wheel for Christmas. Snoooooore, it’s all old stuff. The Super Wheel has been so boring this year that I’ve taken to calling it the Stupor Wheel.

Good morning Moms, Gagagee, and all who follow!

I’m excited for all the upcoming Christmas prizes! Thanks for the spoilers, Moms! I agree that the prizes on the Super Wheel are pretty boring, though. I’ve been pretty disappointed with the wheel prizes (super or otherwise) over the last year or so, so I’m not surprised that there is nothing on there that I really want.

Gagagee, sorry to hear about your niece and nephew’s rough home life. I know from personal experience what that’s like. It sounds like you are a good Godmother to them, though. 🙂

Moms, I accepted your friend request on Webkinz last night. What would you like to trade for the bear/slide? 🙂

Moms, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! My Webbies and I are so excited to have that bear slide! I can’t wait to build a room with it a little bit later! I’m going to look through my dock and see if there’s anything you might like even though you said you didn’t want anything in return. I have to give you something. That bear was like my number 1 eStore dream item, and now I have it thanks to you!! <3 You are the best!!

Here is a picture one of my pets with our new bear (hopefully it posts). As you can see, he loves it just as much as I do:

Again, thank you SO much! I wish I could have come over and done your chores for you for this while you kicked your feet up and played with your Webbies. It sounds like you had a nice afternoon with your mom, instead though. 🙂

    Anyway, calming down a bit…

Gagagee, I agree with Moms. It sounds like you and your niece and nephew are really important to one another and almost meant to be there and love and care for one another in the way that you do. It's funny how that works out sometimes, huh? 🙂

Rubycubes, I read what you shared about your daughter's seemingly frequent medical issues on the Black Friday thread, and like Moms, I am hoping she is doing well. I have frequent medical problems myself, though mine aren't as severe, so my sympathies are with you and her. I'll be sure to keep both of you in my thoughts in prayers.

Hope everyone has a fantastic rest of the day! I'm beat, so I'm going to lay down for a bit and then get up and do some Webkinz a little later on, lol.

That cocoa sign is cute – I think I saw a similar one for sale at Nordstrom’s last year. I wonder if that’s where they got the inspiration. And like TLL said, yay, they spelled homemade correctly this time.

I read back to where Rubycubes mentioned about empty boxes. If we had to put presents under a tree (we don’t since I got a pretty tree skirt that I don’t like to cover up), we prolly have to do that every year. I gave up on surprising honey with presents (as soon as he wants something, Amazon has it on our doorstep the next day) and I’d rather he knows what I want for Christmas. So we usually buy each other’s present the minute it goes on sale and we’re ok with using them before Christmas. 🙂

rubycubes, hope your daughter is feeling better.

About tats and piercings, when I was much younger, my sis used to have an apartment near Alphabet City in Manhattan and whenever I visited then, I used to feel like I need to put on something, even hennae, to fit right in. But never enough pressure to do something permanent. And it’s mostly coz I’m pain averse and I don’t want to deal with the upkeep of piercings. moms and rubycubes, I think you’re onto something when you let them do what they want as long as they understand consequences. I get the impression the teen years are about rebelling while trying to find their true self so it’s when they’re most likely to do something only because parents said no and not because they really want it.

gaga, it sounds like you’re the best fairy godmother. hopefully your niece and nephew appreciate your generosity. you must be counting down to your upcoming vacation. any plans?

hoping to finally finish decorating the tree tonight. then we have some time to enjoy it before we leave for nyc for xmas.

i liked to wear liquid eyeliner, really thin, so i had her duplicate what i wore

Ruby OD has had pretty good luck with the blue temporary and semi permanent hair dyes. No mossy looks. Purple mainly just made YD’s hair look lighter in color. OD has dark brown hair and it is short. YD complained to me at one point they didn’t have anything to rebel against cause I use a similar philosophy. So for her sake I proceeded to whine about something I didn’t particularly care about OD getting an undercut. I think it would look silly but if she really wants to and hair grows back. YD much enjoyed teasing me and encouraging her sister to get that hair cut. OD’s girlfriend agreed with me thought that it wouldn’t be flattering so she hasn’t so far. When OD wanted to get her hair cut short the main thing I was worried about was managing to get it cut often enough she didn’t get uncomfortable with it and the cost of all those extra hair cuts. Told her as long as she was OK with occasionally being confused as a guy then do what she wanted. It ended up looking much better on her than the long hair which had gone frizzy with puberty. I have learned one thing people don’t look at other people’s chest nearly as often as the media likes us to think.

No needles but I did dye my hair pink not that long ago. It was supposed to be red and only for a couple of weeks. Took way too long for the color to come out. There is probably still a little pink. It was one of the brands the girls had good luck with and it wasn’t an asthma trigger so I thought I’d use it to see if I was right about it being a bad idea for trying the permanent with my allergies. Since it wouldn’t be in my hair that long and I passed the skin test. It itched and burned slightly though so going with a no on the covering the gray.

i think if i were born blond, i might have gone for the eyeliner tattoo just for convenience (and not having to worry about the liner smudging/getting messy throughout the day). but since i have dark thick lashes, i only wear eyeliner (or most makeup for that matter) on social occasions at night when family would take pictures. i don’t recall ever seeing a lip liner tatoo. it would have to look fantastic for me to be tempted to do it and bear the pain.

tmt, youngsters get away with all kinds of hair and look good with it. so if there was ever a time to find their signature hair, this is it. and fortunately it does grow back. i got tempted to try shorter hair a few years back and had to get hot rollers to get it to look nice while it was growing out. it’ll be a while before i’ll try that again. i had to add 15 minutes to my morning routine so the hair won’t stick out every which way, lol.

Was only going to buy a few pieces of the sugar and spice and the lamp was one, disappointed it is in a stocking. I did get one of that stocking. Recieved the snow man divider which is cute. Included a wall paper and a flooring no way the value was even close to $20.

Italy does seem the place to go right now. My girls went with their grandmother because of her mother being from the area but OD’s room mate was also there this past summer.

also, sorry about the skin reaction with the hair color and it turning pink and not red but i’m a teensy bit jealous that you can get your hair to turn that shade without a lot of work. even with hair color advertised to work in 10 minutes, i usually have to use it at least 30 for it to take (often 40 minutes to be safe). and if i want anything other than dark brown, i’d have to go to a salon to have them bleach it first then get the right color. without the bleach i can only see a hint of a different color in bright sunshine if i squint at it long enough.

I wore a bob cut for years Zingy although not a particularly short one. I had trouble with if it wasn’t cut just right both sides would curl in the same direction. It worked great when I was at the diary. Went into work with wet hair put the hair net on and when I took it off at the end of the day it had neatly curled my hair under the way it was supposed to be. Once I started the child care I let it grow out no time for anything but running a comb through it. Plus harder to find time for hair cuts.

i did the lips first then went back for the eyes, so it couldn’t have been TOO bad, right? 😉

the way it all started was that i saw this lady at a restaurant and said, “this is going to sound silly, but you have the prettiest lips. do you mind sharing your lipstick color with me?” she told me she had liner tattooed and no lipstick on, so i found out where she had it done and went for it

    i haven’t done hair color though …

    yet …

    Hi everyone!

Milstarr – Welcome! I stumbled on this forum last summer and felt the same way. It’s a great place! I hope you stick around. 🙂

To everyone who has sent well wishes to my daughter, thank you! She actually isn’t doing very well. She stayed home from school today, and I could barely get her out of bed. She has already told me she’s not going to school tomorrow. If she’s not feeling better tomorrow, I’m going to call her doctor. I hope she doesn’t have to go back to the hospital.

Moms – I laughed out loud when you clarified her pronoun. She was always such a little girly girl when she was little, which was interesting to me because I didn’t encourage that and I hang with a pretty diverse group of friends. But that was just who she was, giggly and tiny and super sweet and affectionate, like a little pixie. Since she started high school, she has changed a lot. Grown up a lot. She hangs with a very diverse group at school, and some of her friends are gender neutral and trans. They go by “they”. For a couple weeks, when she got her hair cut, that was her preference. Then they had homecoming last month, and she asked me for hair extensions. LOL. We went to a salon to see how much they were, and for her hair, $300-$500, depending on how many she wanted. I said no way, put a flower in your hair if you want to look girly. She got so sad. So I took her shopping and we found her a gorgeous dress. And I searched you tube videos and found this adorable short hair style with a braid that comes across the front. I bought her a flowery headband. We did her make up, and she looked so cute that night that even she knew it. Since then she seems most comfortable identifying as female, but I encourage her to keep an open mind about herself and others. Identity can be fluid for some people, and I love the person that she is regardless of what pronoun she uses. I just told her she needs to keep me in the loop, and she always does. We talk about everything.

It sounds like you and TMT have a similar relationship with your kids, which is wonderful. My parents were very strict and authoritarian. Children were to obey and never question the authority of their parents. They were “to be seen, not heard.” As a result, even though I knew my parents loved me, their acceptance was extremely conditional, so I never felt free to open up to them when i was young. When I became an adult and decided to make decisions of my own that they did not agree with, they completely disowned me. I haven’t had a relationship with my parents since before my daughter was born.

They’re both in their 60’s now, and neither of them are in good health. I would love to be spending time with them, helping them out when they need it, but they won’t even speak to me. That’s not the type of relationship, or lack thereof, that I want with my child. And I don’t want a superficial relationship with her. Most kids in public schools are hearing about and talking about almost everything imaginable. I’m with you, Moms. I want to know what my kid is thinking about and talking about because then I can help her understand them from a more mature perspective, to understand the consequences. So nothing she says shocks me, or if it does, I quickly get past it and we laugh about it (yes, sometimes she has to explain things to me that I’ve never heard).

Even when she was little, I didn’t censor her language, not because I thought it was ok for her to say whatever she wanted wherever she wanted, but because I thought it was better for her to learn to censor herself. That’s always been my approach with her. I’d rather teach her how to think than what to think. If she can think critically and rationally, she will grow up confident in her own choices. So when she was little, I didn’t tell her not to say certain words because they were “bad”, because that would make me a hypocrite. But I did tell her that some people consider those words “bad”, including teachers and some of her friends. And those friends may not be able to play with her if she said those words, and she may get in trouble with her teacher if she said those words at school, or even sent to the principle’s office. She has always talked very freely at my house because it’s a “safe” place, but never once have I had a teacher or parent call me because she was using “bad” words at school or around her friends. She has had the freedom to speak freely at home, so she doesn’t feel the need to rebel when she’s with her friends, and she learned to censor herself. Some of her best friends since she was little are extremely conservative, very religious, the sort that don’t cut their hair and the girls only wear skirts. She has spent many nights at their house and days with them at the pool or playing games, even gone on a few camping trips with them. They adore her, and she adores them. They know that she doesn’t share their beliefs, and theirs certainly differ from hers, but she is careful to not offend them with offensive language or topics because she values their friendship. And they are careful to not be harsh or judgmental toward her because they value her friendship.

Moms, your boys sound like so much fun! I bet you have a great time with them! Same with your daughters, TMT!

So as far as tattoos go, I’m not afraid of needles at all. If I wanted a tattoo, I would definitely get one. For me, it’s fear of long term commitment. When I was 19 years old and in nursing school, I worked part time in a nursing home to help pay my tuition. I grew up very sheltered, so prior to that I had never seen a tattoo on a woman, much less a woman’s chest. I imagined that at one time, like back in the 30’s or 40’s, having Betty Boop permanently inked on your perky chest might look really cool, but time and age have a way of fading Betty Boop, making her look veeeery long and wrinkly. I can’t think of a single thing that I’m so permanently committed to, including makeup styles, that I would want to have it tattooed on my body. The only thing I hold the desire to absolutely, permanently commit to is the ability to change if I want to.

That said, I’m an artist, and at one time I seriously got interested in body art. I have no problem permanently screwing up someone else’s body if they choose a bad tattoo! I actually have a whole concept for really cool tattoos, although someone else has probably already thought of it and is doing it, but I’ve never seen any like it. I went to a tattoo place one day and asked if they give tattooing lessons because I want to learn how to do them. They laughed at me. So I asked them if I could just watch them give someone a tattoo, and the guy said, “Sure, what type of tattoo do you want? I’ll let you watch.” I was like, “Whatever jerk. I’m gonna get me a honey dew melon and a tattoo pen and figure it out myself!” Which I never did because the idea seemed cooler than the work (and stickiness) involved. But I would love to ink other people, just not myself.

Moms, thank you for the idea about putting candy in the empty TV box! That is the PERFECT gift for my guy. He’s so quirky. He does not like candy much at all, never buys it at the store. It’s just not even a temptation for him ever. Now baked goods… whole other story. But candy, there is only one type he likes, and that’s Sour Patch Kids. The funny thing about Sour Patch Kids is that many stores sell them, and they all sell them in the same little colorful packages. I could buy a pack at Kroger, a pack at Target, and a pack in a random gas station and they are all the same, right? I’ve never looked into the manufacturing of Sour Patch Kids, but if they’re like other candies, I would imagine they’re manufactured in a candy factory, packaged, and distributed to many different stores… at least that’s how things seem to operate in my version of reality.

In my husband’s version of reality, Sour Patch Kids are the only delicious candy, but not all Sour Patch Kids are good, only Home Depot’s. He will walk right past Sour Patch Kids in any other store and not even think about buying them, but he can’t go into Home Depot without buying them. He says that Home Depot makes the best Sour Patch Kids by far. I’ve attempted to explain that Home Deopt doesn’t make their own Sour Patch Kids, but he remains unconvinced. The most he will concede is that, if they don’t make their own in house, they have their own personal distributor, because nobody else’s Sour Patch Kids taste that good. So that’s what I’m going to do thanks to your brilliant suggestion, Moms! I’m going to make a trip to Home Depot just for a small bag of Sour Patch Kids, and then I’m going to elaborately wrap it in the giant TV box. And I can guarantee you his reaction now. He will open it. At first he will be ecstatic to see the Sour Patch Kids. Then he will become skeptical and ask me where I bought them. When I tell him Home Depot, he will beam with excitement and rip the bag open and eat them right there. And no matter what else he gets for Christmas, that will be his favorite gift.

I better get to bed. I have a lot to do tomorrow. Oh, almost forgot! Did I miss the results of the Witch Cottage Contest? Or is it still open? I can’t remember when the contest was scheduled to end.

Otterkinz – Congrats on your adorable bear slide! I love that item too!

Dee – Glad your daughter is coming for Christmas! For breakfast, when I was vegan, I used to make delicious potato hash brown patties with onions and mushrooms mixed in, brushed with vegan butter and baked, but you could substitute other vegetables that she likes. I also made yummy breakfast burritos by cooking tofu to a scrambled egg consistency, mixing it with black beans, onions, fresh cilantro, and peppers and serving it with salsa if I wanted Mexican inspired ones, but you could also mix the tofu with spinach and onions or other vegetables. I don’t make mine with rice, but if she likes rice, you could mix a little brown rice in too.

    Goodnight everyone! 😀

Hi guys! I feel like everyone is really getting into the Christmas spirit especially now that Thanksgiving is over! I love the countdown to christmas prizes. And yes I do agree the super wheel prizes are pretty lame this year, especially for christmas!!

    Hi all! 🙂

    Just a quick check in!

Zingyginger, thanks for all the pictures! I really like that picture with the light up stairs! It’s really quite pretty!

Moms, thanks for inserting my picture in my post! And thank you again for that wonderful bear!! Also, I think it’s pretty cool that you have permanent eye and lip liner. 🙂 I’ve thought about doing eye liner and filled in brows before, but I’ve never gone through with it because I have a serious affliction when it comes to needles. I was poked and prodded with needles all the time as a baby because of kidney issues, and since then, I just can’t deal with them…

It sounds as though a lot of you have either dyed your hair or had a child who has dyed their hair. I’ve had the urge to dye my hair before, but I’ve only ever done it once. I bought a color that was suppose to be made specially for someone with my hair color, and things didn’t out to well. The color barely showed, but at the same time, it made my hair almost metallic which was really weird. I’m pretty happy with my natural hair color, so I doubt I will dye it again after that experience.

milstarr, welcome to Gymbo’s Webkinz Blog! You’re going to love it here! 🙂

Gagegee, enjoy your time off! 🙂

That’s all for now… Got some things I’ve got to go do now. Have a magnificent day everyone!

    XO,
    Otterkinz

holy smokes – i have to post the Thanksgiving winners! yikes!!!! sorry everyone for my slowness!

otterkinz – i had my eyeliner done very thin & simple because I can add for special occasions or whatever, but wanted to keep a natural look – even my lip liner is just a little darker than my natural color. my mother liked mine so much, she did her eyebrows, lips, and eyes – on her eyes and lips she went with a little more bold color & thickness than I did, but it looks great on her! adding that line of eye liner made her eyes look so much more “open” than she had looked as she has aged – her eyebrows are amazing! she’s had to pencil them her whole life, and i can’t believe how natural they look!

    Welcome milstarr!!

I have never tried ink or dye so to speak, but I have been playing with henna, and I would probably consider both a possibility. I have a couple of friends that almost immediately got tattoos when they became adults, but I did not. I would probably do something small if I ever did though. And when it comes to hair I would probably do streaks or the ends. My older sister used to do the variety of diy methods which turned out ok, but I think I would go a very different route. lol my hair is kinda dark brown anyway.

    Hi, welcome Milstarr.

I like my hair color and I don’t even mind the shade of grey that is coming in. It is the mix and that is looks more like I dyed it and haven’t kept up with the roots at the moment, that made me want to color it at least until more of it goes gray. I did have it dyed auburn for a year when I had an unfortunate reaction to a permanent left into too long in the late 80’s. The clumps of blond in my hair made me look pale. My skin wasn’t so sensitive back then no itching from normal shampoos.

As a food scientist the three reason I can come up with and I am not saying they actually do taste different that candy at a specific store might be different. How and at what temperature it is stored, how fast the turnover is on the product and if there is any air getting to the product. Home depot has a distinctive smell it could be having an affect although I would expect it more with chocolate rather than a gummy. Do they sell their product slower or faster than the typical big box. Temperature would mainly effect the texture. The bag of them we have in the house said made in Canada by the way.

Moms – I will definitely include the receipt, although I’m pretty sure he’ll know whether or not I got them at Home Depot by the taste. LOL

TMT – Very interesting point! I hadn’t thought about that. I figured since they were in a sealed, air-tight bag, they would all taste the same. But you’re right, other ambient factors like temperature and moisture could affect the texture and perhaps the taste. How long they sit in storage or in the store may also have an effect. Also, my husband has an extremely heightened sense of smell (which can affect taste). He is far more sensitive to odors and fragrances than me. His first career (he’s had 3) was a drywall contractor. For 8 years, he lived and breathed lumber and drywall and shopped at Home Deopt all the time. I wouldn’t think that the smell could permeate the plastic bags, but the sawdust in the air could potentially rest on the bags. He holds the bags near his face and dumps them in his mouth, so odors, whether physiological or psychological could potentially affect the taste for him as well. I won’t deny his experience. If I were to tell him I bought them at Home Depot, but actually bought them at Kroger, I’m pretty sure he would know I’m lying by the taste. For me, a sour patch kid is a sour patch kid (they’re all equally gross). For him, Home Depot makes them best. LOL

  53. 53 Catmom said,

    Good Thursday Morning

Dee my daughter is studying make up artistry. She suggests starting with a good pencil and when you are confident with that, move on to a good liquid. Lining your eyes is all about personality. For day she suggests a nice thin line corner to corner. We usually start from the nose out. For more dramatic looks add a wing flare on the outside corner. My dd loves to experiment with colour.

Gagagee your hair do sounds very pretty. I have experimented with fun colours like purple and blue and teal and lavender. My hair started turning white when I was 20 so I have been colouring it a long time. Right now I have successfully grown it out to its natural colour. Which is 80% white and 10% charcoal grey and 10% a weird orangy light brown. My hair challenge is that I can not stand to have it shorter than my bra strap, growing it out was very tedious.
I managed to finish my last deluxe challenge yesterday. I was able to buy only one new 50% off membership but I know they will have more sales so it’s all good.
Ruby I hope your dd is feeling better today and I will look forward to reading your post when it is found.
As with any body modification all I can say is, do your research and be true to your own heart.
I wish everyone a wonderful day filled with lot’s of little joys to create with.

Missed the newer filter being set up. The first one didn’t work very well still spent a lot of time removing spam. It was really bad once the blog took off the first year. Older kids would be emailing to ask us to take interesting links down before the younger kids saw them. The biggest problem wasn’t those sorts of ads although we did have quite a few the worst ones were Russian language links and random bits of sentences that read like really bad poetry.

dee – liquid – thin line from inside to outside along the lash line – i suggest corner to corner or starting on the inside where the iris color is & going to the outside corner

the best thing I can tell you is to get a damp tissue, and clear off any smudges or too thick immediately while wet – push the tissue towards the eye line, but don’t apply the liner to the water line of the eye
