    Evening Gymbonians!

Moms, try some apple bread. This never makes it past the 24-hour mark in my house, lol.

    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. apples, chopped
    1/2 c. vegetable oil
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350. Combine all ingredients, adding apples last. (You can toss the apples in lemon juice to make sure they don’t brown while you combine the rest of the stuff.) Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

I wish it had been early bird gagagee but just really late night owl. I ended up playing Elderscrolls online with a friend from the west coast and they weren’t able to play until my 2 am. I’ve barely been on Webkinz the last two weeks was so busy with it end of October needed a little break. I’ve been quickly doing one account and spent one night decorating a toy store room. Time to get back to it with the trophy starting.

Well it is that time of year Dee. There are women groups that call themselves hunting widows that get together to hit the malls, those that don’t hunt themselves or have small children. My dad went with some friends during bow hunting to help out cooking and to visit. He hasn’t actually hunted in years.

TLL, that apple bread recipe sounds yummy but how do you distinguish it from apple cake? i presume you use a regular size loaf pan for it?

thanks for the wonderful donations to the prize pool! hope i can find time to make a room for the contest.

gaga, maintenance is Wednesday next week. they’re doing maintenance once a month now and it usually is on the 4th Wed of the month.

it’s been raining on and off here too. been hard for me to stay awake past 9pm as i’ve been trying to drop off hon at work earlier in the morning to avoid traffic (esp on rainy days).

thanksgiving will be at the in-laws. someone’s bringing spiral-sliced ham so we’re trying to figure out what sides to bring. honey says he wants to do a brussel sprouts dish and maybe a cranberry cheddar dip. we often don’t do turkey so i don’t have a sausage stuffing recipe for thanksgiving but i have made a stuffed pumpkin with sausage, cheese & mushroom (sometimes with bread, sometimes with rice) and that’s always well received. here’s the “template” for making it (i use sausage instead of bacon. if you skip the meat and it’ll make a fine vegetarian main dish)
    https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/pumpkin-stuffed-with-everything-good-361169

ha, my being behind finally came in handy – i still haven’t put the berries from berry fest in jars so i managed to at least get past that step for the WOW challenge. how do you keep getting moonberries, dee?

not sure about my moonberry talent, i honestly think it is because i want a low score and thus more jumbleberries………..

how is your dh doing? i found a betty crocker sausage recipe that pretty much mimicked my idea so i will try………and stuffing is northern and dressing is southern……..altho when we did whole birds, we only stuffed the celery leaves and some onion and garlic in it…………

i bought an upper half of a lady turkey (not sure if i can type it and do not want to fish)………..so we may do turkey day………..altho seems silly with just the two of us………..we talked about hitting up relatives, but honestly they just have way too many kids and we do not want to stay in a hotel…….we be cheap

  21. 21 zingyginger said,

    November 15, 2017 @ 6:08 pm

i see – jumbleberries are being contrarian. back in the day when we didn’t have so many things going on in ww, i used to play daily and it took months to get a moonberry jar filled. now i just rely on the yearly berry fest (and still have to fill the jars to get this year’s prizes).

honey’s getting better little by little. he had his first physical therapy session yesterday and got approved to use either just a cane or a single crutch. the therapist also showed him a few exercises to start strengthening the muscles around the knee. i kinda wish we also could have the postop appointment this week as we expect them to adjust his brace to be able to start bending it (his knee is in a brace that keeps it 180 degrees 24/7) but the next available is next week. i just hope he can bend his knee enough by the time we fly to the east coast for xmas so he’d be comfortable sitting in a plane for hours.

i’ve never been able to tell stuffing from dressing. i usually prefer it to be outside the bird when we used to do turkey as it cooks faster. it sounds like you have a good idea for yours, let us know how it turns out.

  22. 22 dee said,

    November 15, 2017 @ 6:51 pm

one thing we kind of had to search for with dd and her brace was an under socky thing……..hospital one was awful…….ortho one not much better….wound up at a sporting good store after going to numerous med supply type places

thankfully………..one lady actually looked at dd and told us exactly what she needed!……….she gots that tender baby skin ya know………..i am sure your dh is a lot tougher and has one made out of brillo pads or something! ha ha ha

  23. 23 zingyginger said,

    November 15, 2017 @ 7:14 pm

we haven’t quite figured out the whole brace thing so he’s using compression bandages to keep the brace secure and he kinda covers the top of the brace with shorts (we had to scrounge around for work appropriate shorts and fortunately banana republic had some on sale). i hear for women who wear tights, that might also work (and keep the brace from sliding down the leg). he actually has very soft skin so i’ve been putting antibiotic ointment regularly where he gets more than a superficial scratch to keep them from getting infected. we’ll probably have to find pants that he won’t mind wearing the brace over but it’s a work in progress.

how’s dd now? is she out of the splint?

    Morning Gymbonians!

zingy, I always make the apple bread recipe in a loaf pan. The recipe is super awesome, especially if you take a warm slice and put some butter on it. Major yumness! And darn it, I’m gonna bake one of these today, because now I want a warm slice with butter, lol.

I have a sausage stuffing recipe that’s been handed down from my grandmother. Don’t know how “squishy” it is, because I’m not sure what kind of stuffing you consider “squishy”, but here it is!

1/2 bag Pepperidge Farm original flavor stuffing mix
    Water
    1 medium onion, chopped
1 pound Jimmy Dean plain pork sausage meat
    Salt, pepper, garlic powder
    2 eggs

Place the stuffing into a bowl. Add water to the stuffing until no more water can be absorbed. Add onion and spices to taste. (I go heavy on the garlic powder, a bit lighter on the salt and pepper.) Add sausage and eggs and mix with hands. (Your hands will get super messy!) Place in oven-proof dish and bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours at 325. (The time may vary, depending upon how much water you used…aka how “squishy” you want the stuffing to be! I usually take the stuffing out after 1 hour.) Fat will rise to the top of the stuffing; you can pour it off.

I started the wheel of wow trophy and then I realized something…I never did the picnic challenge last month! Eep! Has anyone got a spare Picnic trophy? If so, let me know what you would like in exchange. I should have a spare trophy from every single other trophy challenge if you want. I’m even willing to buy an estore code for you if you help me out. I do not know HOW I missed doing this challenge, but I’m kicking myself now. Thanks bunches in advance!!!

  29. 29 TheLoopyLurker said,

    November 16, 2017 @ 11:52 am

Oops, forgot to mention: dee, I’ve never frozen the apple bread, because it’s never lasted long enough to be frozen, lol. I would imagine it’s freezable, because the apples have been cooked. (One can have problems freezing fruits and vegetables unless they’re blanched.)

    Now to change my hat…

  30. 30 SantaLurker said,

*places jolly red cap on head*

HO HO HO! It’s getting close to holiday season, which means SantaLurker is making her list and checking it twice! This means that all Gymbonians should check THEIR lists…wish lists, that is, and make sure they are updated so that SantaLurker can deliver some goodies! You may ask SantaLurker for anything within reason, except pet codes, because SantaLurker takes the Webkinz rules seriously and never gives out pet codes. SantaLurker does not have an excess of super-retired things just laying around, so asking for something like a Monster Lair Gate is not reasonable. Pretty much anything else is reasonable, including estore codes! So get to working on those lists, Gymbonians!

And no, SantaLurker still does not have a wish list. 😉 If SantaLurker did have a wish list, it would consist of a real-life private island with no telephone or mail service so SantaLurker wouldn’t have to deal with aggressive salespeople and junk mail, lol.

    November 16, 2017 @ 1:49 pm

    Good afternoon!

Thank you for all the updates! For those of you donating, thank you for the generous prizes! I’ve been working on a room design for the witch cottage contest. I started off like…. hmm…. I have no idea what to do…. hmm…. Eventually, I came up with a concept I like, so I’m running with it and really like it so far! It is the first room I’ve decorated in the past couple months, so even if I don’t win the cottage, thank you for the inspiration and motivation to decorate a really fun room! 😀

Thanksgiving is small and quiet for us. We don’t have any family to celebrate it with, so it’s always just the three of us – my husband, daughter, and me. Same with Christmas. But we love it just the same. In a former life (or career path), my husband went to culinary arts school and cooked for some very high end chefs. He is now in a different career, but cooking is still one of his biggest joys.

Thanksgiving is my hubby’s favorite holiday. Every year, he takes the entire week off work. He buys a turkey the weekend before. Early in the week, he starts planning his menu. He goes out and does his own grocery shopping. This isn’t a chore for him. When Thanksgiving shopping at Kroger, he’s as excited as a kid at Toys-R-Us. He will generally bake at least two deserts on Wednesday. Then he gets up early, like 5-6 AM (maybe not early for you, Gagagee, but that’s EARLY for us), and starts his prep. He will spend all day cooking. By evening, we will have a feast large enough to feed the entire neighborhood, which is to say, enough leftovers to feed us for a week or more.

Every year, his goal is to outdo last year’s spread. I do not understand this obsession. When I’m home full time like I have been the past few months, I cook dinner every evening, and the three of us have dinner together at the dining room table. I always enjoy dinner with my family. We eat healthy, home cooked food every night. We talk about our day and things of importance in our lives. We laugh together and stay connected. For me, the only difference with Thanksgiving is that my husband cooks (which sounds awesome, like I get a break, but I’m the “errand Turkey”…. as he remembers things he forgot to include in his grocery trip, I run out to the store to get them).

Being vegetarian, the Turkey he cooks is of no interest to me. Truth be told, I don’t like any of the Thanksgiving symbolism (I’m a Thanksgiving Grinch!) Thankfully, he’s nice enough to make sure all of the side dishes and deserts he makes are vegetarian-friendly, so I never go to bed hungry on Thanksgiving. And he is such an amazing cook! For me, Thanksgiving feels like any other day, except my husband cooks the meal. I still get to clean up! 😀

But if there’s one thing I’m thankful for, it’s that Thanksgiving reminds me that I don’t need a holiday to have a really wonderful meal with my family. I’m lucky enough to have that every day, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel thankful for that.

I will also be thankful if I remember to spin the Wheel 20 times over the next month. Does anyone else find this challenge extremely stressful?

Off to spin the Wheel before I go pick my kid up from school. Apparently her high school has a Hogwarts club. They meet after school every Wednesday and obsess over everything Harry Potter. They are each given an initiation test to determine which section they are in. She was so excited to get into Grylfindor. My kid is such a nerd! And I say that with absolute love and adoration for all things nerdy, including my kid. 😀

  32. 32 RubyCubes (WWID: clm88) said,

    November 16, 2017 @ 2:05 pm

Gagagee – Congrats on getting two weeks off for Christmas! In my experience, a nurse getting two weeks off at that time of year is almost unheard of. You must be doing something right! Awesome!

TLL – What is your WWID? I don’t think I have added you (or forgot who you are if I did). Sometimes I inflict massive pain on myself by playing games I hate over and over to satisfy some pathological trophy obsession…. like one isn’t enough… must have 5 (or 50). Then they just sit in my dock for years. Anyway, I have several extra picnic trophies and would be happy to send you one! Nothing needed in return! You are so generous to everyone here. I would be thrilled to help you out for once!

I have a feeling next month will be really fun here! I respect your decision to strictly adhere to pet code rules, TLL. I tend to be a boundary-pusher. I’m planning a giveaway next month too, but likely it will include pet codes, so everyone, please fully update your lists! 😉

You never know what you might find…..
Ruby.. our clinic closes every year for past 9 years for 2 weeks at Christmas..
The doctor does not celebrate Christmas…. takes his family on vacation.. so employees get the time off… This year he is not taking off BUT I had
already planned to use two weeks of my vacation time anyway… so I am so
happy to be off for the Holidays !! The rest of the staff will have to work… feel bad for them…

anyways, wall is about 18 inches deep and maybe three feet high, but part of that is cabinet, so not a big project.

    Morning Gymbonians!

I came here to see who “clm88” is that sent me a Picnic trophy, and I see it is Ruby. Thank you ever so much!!! Now I’m off to look at your wish list to return the favor, lol. 😉

    Hi everyone!

TLL – Thank you for the thank you mail. I loved it!

Moms – That’s great that your son loves to cook. Since you like to bake, it sounds like you compliment each other nicely. At one of our competitions, there was an all girl robotics team, and the back of their tshirts say, “Come talk nerdy to me.” LOL. I so want one of their team tshirts!

I hope everyone has a great day! And Dee, I hope you’re wearing a mask so you don’t breathe in that dust.

    Happy WOW spinning!

i only put several wholes in it and realized it is sheetrock versus drywall….old house…….i think i will wait to see if dh notices……

i wish i could describe it……a couple feet over from sink area is this wall…original owners had their pantry with bifold doors there….makes no sense to me as on other side of wall is the rest of the counter top……..?????
i want it gone so i can have a smooth run of counter……..and there are three outlets back there, so i could permanently park my pretty pretty mixer if i wanted to………or just plug it in without having to dodge the sink where the other outlet is!

    Happy Friday all!
I like the way you think Dee! There may be several swatches of paint put up on the living room walls this weekend while all the dhs are in MI! It will drive dh crazy and finally make us call the painter. 😆 It’s a vaulted ceiling and I’m such a klutz, I’m not safe on a step ladder. And good for you for kicking that first contractor group to the curb!
Congrats gaga on your well deserved vacay time!
SantaLurker, thank you for your always amazing generosity!
Going to try and get to as much Thanksgiving prep as I can this weekend. We are having Thanksgiving at my brothers in MI. My SIL likes to do non traditional food, which is fine with dh and I, but my elderly aunt who is like a mom to us likes the traditional stuff, so I make a small turkey, taters and stuffing just for her. (sorry dee, I only have a regular northern stuffing recipe) Then 2 cherry pies, 2 pumpkin and a Key Lime pie for my nephew.
Ruby—I do find the thought of trying to meet the wow challenge a little out of reach. I’m already behind. I think I’ve only spun it once. With getting ready for Thanksgiving and traveling, I’ll be lucky to get one of those trophies!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

dee, props to you for tackling the wall. i’m a scaredy cat and dust allergic so i just enjoy watching people on the Property Brothers do it but would never tackle something like it in a million years.

i’m glad rubycubes has an extra trophy for TLL. i managed to get a picnic trophy by getting 4kc at a time that i couldn’t muster up the enthusiasm to do it more than once even with my hoarding tendencies. and thank you both for being so generous to everyone on the blog.

moms, you’re so lucky to have a son who likes to cook. what kind of dishes does he make?

so we’re having thanksgiving with the in-laws and someone else is bringing honeybaked spiral ham. what would you recommend as sides? my hon would like to make something with brussel sprouts (he loves them). but other than that, not a clue as to what we else we should be shopping for. any suggestions would be welcome. and i already bought some honey crisp apples to make TLL’s apple bread (not sure if we’d bring it as if it’s as good as it sounds, it probably won’t make it til next week, lol).

and i have been so jealous of those house reno folks taking a hammer

i just did not think it out well…..meaning move the stuff on the other side, have a drop cloth and stuff to clean up with……i just wanted to whack that wall!
which it is crazy as i will add cupboards on the other side (which we saved from previous all removal)……i think i just need to bust dhs chops when he gets back from vacation! his bro has even nagged him on why he does not have my kitchen done yet!

i think instead of gofundme, i need a gonagforme fund!

dee – sounds like it makes total sense to bash the “wall” out with a hammer 🙂 i really do think so, but it’s so funny how you tell the story – i’m dying over here 😆

i just took the pumpkin “pudding” crunch out of the oven that my youngest baked – i put it in and took it out of the oven, opened his cans for him, and answered a couple of questions – he did the rest 🙂

he does bake some, but not as much as he cooks – he makes breakfast – very good french toast, bacon, sausage, eggs, chicken breakfast burritos, etc. – he has cooked fried rice, burgers, grilled chicken, fish, quesadillas – all kinds of things. he mostly cooks on a flat top “griddle” but he has baked brownies and mixed pumpkin pie, etc.

This is what he just baked – we skip the mint:

    Nicole Murphy’s Pumpkin Pudding Crunch

    INGREDIENTS:
    2 sticks salted butter
1 large can pumpkin puree (If you are using one can, it should be the 29oz can or 2 15oz cans)
    3 brown eggs
    1 large can evaporated milk
    1 cup white sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 tsp cinnamon
    ½ tsp nutmeg
    1 box yellow cake mix
    Fresh mint leaves
    Whipped topping

    DIRECTIONS:
    • Melt butter; set aside
    • In large bowl, mix together: pumpkin puree, eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract cinnamon & nutmeg
    • Pour into baking dish
    • Sprinkle evenly over mixture, dry cake mix. Cover completely with cake mix.
    • Pour melted butter on top to cover cake mix, do not mix in. Butter should sit on top of cake mix.
    • Bake for 1 hour @ 350 degrees
    • Let cool; best served cold
    • Top with a dollop of whipped topping, dash of cinnamon and garnish with a mint leaf

my mother & grandmother always loved sweet potato casserole with honeybaked ham – awwwww … a little nostalgic …

april – sounds like a good dinner!

we usually have Thanksgiving with the inlaws, so they are coming here for a traditional meal – turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, etc.

    yeah
but once it is down, then new countertops (versus 1980s pink) need to go in…originally i had looked at something i wanted, but now that i plan to move, thinking something more neutral and cheaper!

just found out dd may be home for three weeks at christmas! waiting on flight info……..briefed her that we need to box up her room of what she wants to keep and donate/sell the rest……..

april – can you see if you can add me in ww? i tried to add you & got the friends list full error 🙄

if that was a glitch where we could get something at a big discount, they would fix it … just sayin’

now that sounds yummy, moms – sweet potato casserole. do you have your gramma’s recipe? the pumpkin pudding crunch sounds great too – is that for your thanksgiving or just your regular weekend treat?

i kinda wish we were in charge of dessert but they were asking for sides. i would make dee’s pecan tassies. i think we did ina’s brussels sprouts and they turned out well so we’ll probably do it again. dee, can you please repost your custard corn? it was a hit last year and the year before.

    so you’re definitely moving, dee?

    Good morning, all! It’s Satur-time! 🙂

I finally caught up on all the posts this morning. I wish I enjoyed cooking as much as most of you … I tolerate it, and do a reasonable job, but I’d much rather be doing just about anything else. I do enjoy remodeling, so I can relate to you, dee! I usually hire a contractor, but he lets me help a LOT, and has taught me so much about construction, and I’ve always loved the planning and designing parts. One of my favorite projects was when he installed wood siding in the basement to make it look like a log cabin. It is now our vacation destination. While it was in the demo stage, I let my kids graffiti the cement block wall underneath with spray paint, and they had a blast (and they were actually scary-good). I took tons of pictures before we covered our “time capsule” up with the wood siding. Whoever decides to remodel down there some day will think we were vandalized at one point!

I actually like the wheel of wow trophy challenge this time, because I usually still do my dailies every day, so this one should be fairly easy. I am trying to save up cash for Christmas, because I love their Christmas items and always buy too many trees. But I can’t help it.

Good to see Santa Lurker back! That’s how I “met” you all when I stumbled on the very beginning of her Christmas in July event, and couldn’t believe my luck. I’ve been trying to give back ever since … except no one needs the stuff I have! But I keep trying! 🙂 One of these days …

I have been one Zum short of my collection for going on two years now. Anyone have any tips on which zums are in which cities? Tips? Cheats? That last one is driving me crazy. He’s a zippy zum named Zoom … with the blue face.

dee, I looked up a John Sanford book and read the first one. Not bad. I’ve been reading through the Vince Flynn spy novels, and waiting for the next library loan to download on my Kindle. I’ve read so many of them that I now look at every face in the parking lot and stores, using my very best spy skills I’ve learned. Has made me much more aware of my surroundings, which is never a bad thing.

Well, off to spin the wheel! And super happy to have a blank Saturday morning to play with. Have a great weekend!

miracle – i really can’t stand cleaning up from cooking, so i do not cook often – i’m good at it when i do, but meh … 😉 i end up cleaning up for my ds when he cooks though because he enjoys cooking, and i’m the mom

zingy – i will have to look for the recipe – pretty sure i do have it

gaga – i thought about green bean casserole too – great minds …

and about the pumpkin pudding crunch – it is so good, but ds and i decided that next time we are going to do a crust with butter & cake mix on the bottom, then still the full topping – we love the crunch! 🙂
