Rockerz Pet Contest
Hi Friends! I’ve decided to host a monthly pet giveaway contest. Last month, one lucky member of this fine community won a code for a curly lion. This month, I’m all about rockerz! I love a wide variety of music, but my favorite is definitely metal. Meet my rockerz lion:
He is named after my favorite musician, who is not only a fantastic entertainer, but a spoken word artist… a poet. The first person to guess the name of this Rockerz Lion will win a code for a new pet! The winner can choose 1 pet from my surplus of rockerz pets, which include Bad to the Bone Bulldog, Country Star Horse, Groovy Poodle, Hip Hop Bunny, Leopard, Peace, Love and Moosic Cow, Punky Monkey, Raccoon, Rock and Roar Lion, and Zebra.
You may guess as many times as you’d like. The only rule is that you must communicate via email with Momskinz, because I will email the code to her to send to you (unless I have your email address… in which case I’ll email the code directly to you). If you have any questions, please ask! Let the contest begin! 🙂

Zingy – It is perfectly fine if you’re not a metal fan and know nothing about the genre. That’s what Google is for! 😉
Mist – I have never had the honor of watching Marc Smith perform. He’s a legend in the world of slam poetry for sure, but I have no idea if he is a musician. Getting to the Green Mill in Chicago is on my bucket list though… and he’s a lot older than me, so it should probably be one of those things I don’t procrastinate.
As for Jewel, she is one of the few pop singers I like, and for the same reason that I like a lot of metal bands. I consider her a grassroots artist, not a corporate production.
And Lionel Richie… HA! I love it! I actually have a love lion named Lionel, inspired by Lionel Richie’s love ballads of the 1980’s. Not a metal head (trying to imagine Lionel Richie growling for an audience is painful), but definitely worthy of an honorable mention! 😀
Dee – Trent Reznor is a great guess! I am not a huge NIN fan, but I do like a few of their songs. I’ve never seen them live. One of my all time favorite songs is Hurt, and for writing that song alone, I would consider Rezner a great songwriter. However, after hearing Johnny Cash’s cover of it, I can’t even listen to Reznor perform it. There’s no authenticity. The emotion that Cash brings to that song breathes so much life and meaning and sadness into those lyrics. So great guess! You’re on the right track. But not my favorite… 🙂
Lee-Ann – No, not Leonard Cohen, but I’m excited that I’m not Canadian and know who he is! LOL. My daughter is on her high school’s a cappella team (because 3 days of robotics each week isn’t enough activity), and one of her favorite songs to sing is Hallelujah. I was curious about the song and its lyrics, so I looked it up one day… which is to say… I discovered that it was written by a Canadian Jewish Buddhist poet… and then I was like… must know more… so that turned into 3 hours of research. What a fascinating guy! I don’t think anyone would consider him a metal musician though. 😉
So here are a couple of clues to steer you in the right direction. Don’t get hung up on me classifying HIM as a poet. He’s a musician, lead singer, and song writer for not just one, but two, popular metal bands (to have one metal band with mainstream popularity and frequent airplay is rare… two… almost unheard of… here is where Google is your friend 😉 )
I consider him a poet because, to me, he is a grassroots lyricist, masterful with wordplay, rhythm, and spoken word poetry, but you would only know this if you listen to one of his band’s albums. He has tracks that are nothing but him reciting his own spoken word poetry… no music… nothing else… just raw spoken word from a grassroots poet/songwriter. I know that doesn’t appeal to everyone, which is fine! But I totally dig it. And his obvious love for word play and spoken word comes through in the lyrics of some of his songs.
That’s all the help for tonight. If nobody has guessed him by tomorrow, I will give you another clue!

On an unrelated note, it took me like a year to figure out how to hatch the dragon and get that trophy, but now that I’ve figured it out, I’m kind of addicted. Instead of playing Jumbleberry Blast, I’ve been playing Hatch the Dragon, and I have a bunch of extra trophies. And they’re tradeable! If anybody needs one for your collection, please let me know!
I’ve gotten to play WW a little this week, but not a lot. BTW, if you see me in the trading room and I don’t speak to you, please don’t take it personally! Sometimes I go in there planning to trade, but I have multiple things going on at the same time. I’m completely rearranging my family and living room this week, and reorganizing all of my Ebay inventory. I often log into Webkinz, sometimes the trading room, and then walk away and get into another project, and when I come back, I’m logged out. If I don’t say hi or respond, I’m just afk. I have a laptop computer and a Chrome Book. The computer will log me out after a bit if I don’t do anything, but there have been times that I have left to get my daughter from school, stop at the grocery store, and come home… like 2 hours… and I get back and I’m still in the trading room. A lot of times I’m the only one in the room at that point, but I often forget to log out. So anyway, if I’m at the computer and I see you, I will always say hi! If I don’t say hi, I’m legit not there… don’t want anyone to think I’m being rude. I can be rude, but it’s generally not deliberate.

Corey Taylor would like you to notice how generally angry he is with the world. He would like to know how he is supposed to keep going 24/7, rocking out with his bands, collaborating with other musicians, entertaining the entire rock world when I never feed him, exercise him, bathe him, put him to bed, and clearly deprive him of his favorite games, like Jumbleberries, which I did not play when he requested it.
In all seriousness, Yay Shelly! You guessed that fast! The other guesses were awesome too! David Draiman is a very close second for me. I adore him and Disturbed.
What I love about Corey Taylor is his versatility. He can growl with the best of rockers when performing with Slipknot, but he also shows his beautiful, softer voice in slower ponderous existential songs like Bother and Through Glass by Stone Sour. I love the free verse poetry he spits on some of his earlier albums. And I love how he collaborates with many different rock bands, like Apocalyptica and Korn. If you’ve never heard any of his songs and you’re not into really hard music, just watch the youtube videos for those two songs – Bother and Through Glass. Through Glass is a great video!
As for Disturbed, they’ve been one of my favorite bands for many years. David Draiman is another rocker who has an awesome growl, but can turn around and make you cry with his dark, melodic ballads. As much as I love Disturbed’s music, my favorite song is their cover of Sound of Silence. If you’ve never heard Disturbed’s cover of that old song… just wow. You should go watch the video right now. I can listen to it over and over and over like a little kid who keeps The Little Mermaid on auto replay for weeks.
Nita – Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell would have been great guesses too. I was never a huge Linkin Park fan. My husband loved them, but we never got to see them live. We were both big Audioslave/Soundgarden fans though. It’s a shame we never got to see them perform either.
I thought for sure someone would say Maynard James Keenan, which would have been an excellent guess, although his bands Tool and A Perfect Circle, are probably more alternative rock than metal. We have tickets to see A Perfect Circle perform in Cincinnati in November. Can’t wait!
Dee – Marilyn Manson was a great guess! I like some of his stuff, but he’s a bit one-dimensional for me. He’s a lot of makeup and hype, but many of his good songs are covers of others. He has a few good lines in his original songs, but not enough to put him anywhere near the top of my favorites list.

I echo you in saying that Disturbed is AMAZING!!! We seen them in concert a year or so ago and it was the best show I had ever been to!! I was even doing my akward form of head banging dancing that my husband found very funny. I didn’t care it was AWESOME!!! Can’t wait to get another chance to see them.
Tied with Disturbed for my favorite band is the one all my pets are named for.
Avenged Sevenfold is what really got me into metal. I must say however I am not a huge fan of their newest album “The Stage”. Not heavy enough I don’t think. I’m more of an Unholy Confessions type gal. We’ve seen them twice in concert. Really SUPER shows!!!

anyone ever try re-purposing stuff as jewelry? I’ve started making a wrap bracelet out of the tube like earring backs off of all my earrings because I hate them and only use butterfly ones and the cap ones I got back when I got my ears pierced. I’ve been at it for a while and I’m only at one and a bit loops and I’m going for 4.

Good evening, everyone! It has been a busy day. I have to get everyone fed, including my three kitties, and get everyone to bed before I have time to sit down by myself for a few minutes before I crash.
I hope you all had fun with this contest. It was fun for me! And if it wasn’t really your thing, no worries, I’ll try to mix it up with something else next month.

Nita – OMG Same! Disturbed puts on such a great show! I’ve seen them several times live, and one was at my favorite venue – Bogarts. It’s a dingy little hole-in-the ground club in Cincinnati, and every now and then they score an amazing band. It’s a fairly small club, and I absolutely love headbanging down in the mosh pit… people crowd surfing over your head.
And Avenged Sevenfold, YES! We just saw them live in July. They were incredible. I don’t feel quite as much passion from their music as some of the other bands I really like. However, they are technical geniuses, and they put on a fantastic show! I would definitely see them again. The only down side to that concert was that Volbeat opened for them. That was painful, but totally worth suffering through to see Avenged Sevenfold.
