Curly Lion Contest
In honor of August’s pet of the month, I would like to host a Curly Lion contest!
The winner of this contest will receive a pet code for the Webkinz Curly Lion, and if you register it this month, you will have the opportunity to receive a pet of the month item and participate in the additional activities in Webkinz World! To protect your privacy, I will email the code to momskinz (AKA Fiona Feathers), and she will email it to you, so you must be on momskinz’s email list to participate. For your safety, it is recommended that you adopt the pet on an anonymous account. The Curly Lion would make a great little Helping Paws helper!
This contest is very simple, but you must post to win! I have a lot of pets on my account. I tend to play one for a while (a few weeks, maybe a couple months). Then I switch to another pet and play it for a while. For the past month, I have been playing the same pet. The first person to post which pet I’ve been playing will win a Curly Lion pet code. You may post as many guesses as you want but only 5 pets per post. There are a LOT of pets in Webkinz, so I’m going to give you one clue to start. It is NOT a dog.

Im pretty much always playing with either my pink poodle or vampire bunny. Though my pink poodle is my favorite one to dress up since most things fit properly on lucy.

i just read back in comments. Yesterday was busy. I missed an entire post! Glad to hear that so many people were able to get the new fridge. I fed some soda a couple of days ago and got one on the fifth try so I am happy! I have still been feeding them but no more luck. Like most here I am more that happy with the one.

Missing you guys and missing not being able to play WW as honey’s sister and her family arrived midweek and we’ve been spending time with them.

shorty.. I look for Webbies everywhere I go.. Pat Catan’s no longer carries them..Ollie’s had small bin of them .. all the same pet.. I think it was the white yorkie looking dog with red bow… None at Michael… Five Below had a couple of older picked over webbies.. most with no tags ! Tuesday Morning … none..
The ONLY place I have found them is at the local Hallmark store.. Full price and the most recent Webbies..Used to be able to get them at the Cracker Barrel but haven’t checked there in quite a while… hope that helps !

If I find webbies at the store it’s Tuesday Morning. They are all older ones that I already have. Sometimes I’ll find a gem, but it’s rare. I’ve looked at Dollar Tree, Five Below, Cracker Barrel and others and still nothing. Sorry I’m not much help.

No stores here carry webbies anymore. I have to order them from eStore, Amazon or eBay. I always make sure they have positive reviews before I purchase from an online seller.

Nobody has guessed the pet yet, but as soon as I see it, I will let you know! If nobody has guessed it by the end of today, I will provide another clue to help narrow it down more. 🙂
As for where I buy Webkinz pets… it is less about where I buy them and more about how I buy them. As far as I know, we don’t have a single store in the Cincinnati area that sells them. Some of the Tuesday Mornings used to, but I haven’t seen any in months. None of our Hallmark stores do. We have a flea market in Northern Kentucky, and there is a woman there who sells nothing but Webkinz and Beanies, but a lot of hers are old and used. Many of them do not have the codes, and the whole shop has a musty smell. I’ve found a few there worth buying, but not much.
That said, I have a strategy for obtaining Webkinz… more or less for free… sorta. I used to buy Webkinz at full price as soon as they came out, but that got expensive, especially with signature pets when they were all the rage. And I was buying them for my daughter and me, so I stumbled upon a way to feed our (now my) plush habit without spending anything.
The only place I could consistently find good Webkinz plush pets was online, so I started watching the prices closely, specifically on Ebay and Amazon. I took $100, which was my “Webkinz investment fund.” Once I had a good idea of which pets were selling well and what the going price was, I would wait for a good deal to come along and buy. Then I would turn around and sell it for more than I paid. For example, I found a Signature Timber Wolf on Ebay, used but in excellent condition with no code. With shipping, I paid $13 for it. I turned around and put it up for auction on Ebay, and it sold for over $100. After Ebay fees and shipping, I had cleared $90. Then I found a new signature bernese mountain dog with a sealed code for $100, bought it, then sold it for $230. Cleared close to a hundred on that one. I’ve done this over and over many times for several years.
What started out as $100 in my “Webkinz Investment Account” is now quadrupal that, plus I have 16 large totes full of new Webkinz with unused codes, plus another 4 totes of used ones in excellent condition without codes to resell. This doesn’t include my personal collection. I keep my adopted pets separate. This is just sellable inventory. Many of the pets I have are rare. Some are listed. Others I’m holding onto for now, waiting for the price to go up on them. Then I’ll list them.
So I buy all my Webkinz online. I pay for them, but because my Webkinz fund more than pays for itself, they don’t cost me anything… if that makes sense. I’ve been able to donate boxes of new Webkinz pets to various charities, like toys for tots, and school fundraisers. That said, to make sure I stay within my Webkinz investment fund budget, I don’t splurge on a lot of estore items. With the exception of a yearly deluxe account, I rarely spend money in the estore, and if I do, it’s on something I really want and it comes out of my Webkinz account with the understanding that I won’t get my money back on it. I also don’t adopt the majority of the pets I buy. I only adopt pets that I really want. I trade in the trading room for psi and other items.
So as far as where to buy pets, my suggestion is online. There is some risk involved because you can’t look at the item before you purchase it, but overall I’ve had very good success with it. Ebay and Amazon both have good buyer protection and return policies that allow you to return the items if they are not in the condition listed. I’ve had to do this a few times, but most of the items I’ve purchased have been perfect. Like April, I always look at the seller’s performance rating. I won’t buy from poorly rated sellers no matter how good the deal seems. There are a couple of sellers that I deal with frequently online, and I get excellent deals and have never been disappointed with the quality.

Shorty, the last webkinz I bought were at the dollar store too. I was surprised they had the Rockrz Zebra but otherwise they were all older pets. The only other place I have seen them in a very long time is a place called Five Below. They too only had older ones.

There was a small shop in the city next to ours that sold mostly new ones until this past December but they closed. Amazon, Five Below, Ollie’s, estore. Just found out there is an Ollie’s in December it is pretty close to where the small shop was, haven’t been in there since February. There is a Hallmark in a big mall 12 Oak’s that sold new ones, the managers teen daughter still plays. I may have cleared them out a little the day I took YD’s phone screen to be fixed at the Apple store. But it is far enough away we go there maybe twice a year. I’ve bought around four off of ebay they were pets from years we didn’t play. We have so many stuffed animals in the house already, I prefer to get codes on sale in the estore.

I think I wore a size three briefly at 12 when I had a height growth spurt before my curves completely came in. I don’t drop below an 8 even at the bottom of my recommended weight scale. YD is a size 1 at 13 not sure where it came from because wide hipbones run in all four sides of the family.

Hi everyone!! Sorry to be so sparse here past few days, things here have been a bit on the crazy side. As I’ve mentioned before, I live with my sister and her three kiddos. When I say my sister, though, we aren’t actually related, but we’ve adopted each other as sisters, and claimed each other’s families as our own! (Amazingly this craziness works, and well at that!)
My nieces (12 & 14) were on vacation with their father (my sister’s Ex) for the last two weeks, and my sister just started working full-time again, so I had my almost 3yr old nephew full time these last couple weeks. And that’s in addition to looking for full time work myself AND house hunting for a place that will fit myself, my sister, and the three kiddos! We’re really hoping to be moved into our own place (We’re currently in the basement apartment of her parent’s house) by October if at all possible. Almost any free moment my sister and I have had had been spent looking at homes for sale, and making appointments to view homes whenever we can squeeze it in.
I wanted to make sure I stopped by to thank everyone for the gifts I’ve received recently!! Ruby, Gagagee and Cheese THANK YOU SO MUCH!! The gifts really mean the world to me, and it’s so exciting to have new cars for my collection, among other amazing new goodies!!!
Dee – Never! I went from kids sizes to about a size seven I believe. I’ve always been a “hippy thing” Hahahahahaha I do have a painful memory of shopping for jeans at the mall with my dad, and the woman that worked at the store kept bringing me jeans that were super small sizes, like one and zero even. I remember being in tears when NOTHING was fitting (I was maybe around 11 when this took place) and my dad had to explain to the clerk that because I had wide hips I would need a larger size.

It dawned on me today that classes start in 2 weeks. I was taking summer classes until mid july, so i am not ready for this.
My sister is trying to get me to take a job doing data entry. Her friend wanted her to take the job, but it wouldn’t work for her. It pays well, but is quite far (30-40 minute drive depending on traffic). They want someone full time, but would be willing to let me do part time to work around my schedule. I would love to take it because i barely make about minimum wage now, but with my schedule for the fall, i wouldn’t be available until after 2pm on mon/wed and 3:30pm on tue/thur so i don’t know how on earth they’d be able to work with that, and those times don’t even factor in the drive time. I can’t change my class schedule now because then i wont be able to take all the classes i need in order to transfer next semester. I feel like if i try to get the job and end up getting it, i’ll just stress myself out over the schedule and the drive, but if i don’t take it i’ll just be upset about the fact that i could’ve been making so much more. However, I do love the job i have now, which is why i’m still there despite the awful pay.

Women’s clothing sizes in general are so ridiculous. I can fit anywhere between a 0 and a 5 (i have like no hips), it just depends on the pair. I have multiple pairs from the same store that are different sizes because there is no consistency, even among the same brand. I always have to take multiple pairs of the same kind into the dressing room to see which one will fit. For some reason shorts seem to be more consistent when it comes to sizing, but stores never seem to have my size and due to my distrust for clothing sizes, ordering online isn’t an option.

That is a confusing situation Chococat. Probably better to see if they can work with your schedule then go from there making a decision. Classes should be your priority for now have to make sure the new job would still leave you with adequate study time and sleep.

After this semester i’ll be transferring to a university that’s in the same area as the job and i think that’s what makes my sister think it’ll be easier for me. However, i don’t want to be going back and forth to school and work. When i mentioned the mon/wed class, my sister said i could go to class on my lunch break because she thought i’d be at that school this semester. School is my priority and taking classes on a lunch break is not what i’m trying to do.

Nitabuggy – I hear ya! I have a few Webkinz pets that I’ve bought fully intending to sell, and while I can’t bring myself to register them, I just can’t sell them either. One is the sweet elephant. OMG, that is the cutest Webkinz plush I’ve ever seen. The ears… just wow… the ears! I adore it. I had it up for sale and took it down because I was afraid it would sell. And the price has gone way up on it. It’s rare. So I want to sell it and I don’t at the same time. So it’s just sitting in a tote waiting for me to decide, and at the rate that I make decisions, it could be sitting there for years. Same with the red fox and the harvest owl… OMG! I just can’t part with them… yet… I don’t know. Maybe some day.
WebkinzRUs – I wish I had as much success in the stock market as I have with Webkinz. Somehow I’m okay with making a bad Webkinz purchase. The worst that happens is I get stuck with a few (or a few hundred) extra Webkinz that won’t sell… Oh darn! More helpers. LOL. I’m okay with investing small amounts in the stock market, but I’m too much of a scaredy cat to invest a lot, which is why I’ll never make a lot.
LeeAnn – I don’t know what the Canadian shipping rates are within Canada, but I know that shipping from Canada to the U.S. is ridiculous. I’ve bought a few Webkinz pets from Canadian sellers, and I will pay as much or more for the shipping as I do the pet, so I really have to weigh the value when I purchase from Canada. Occasionally I find amazing deals from Canadian sellers though, and the shipping is worth it. Several months ago, I bought a large signature golden retriever from a Canadian seller, and even with shipping, I got it for half the price of what the lowest price one normally sells for on Amazon or Ebay. Part of the trick with buying and selling Webkinz is knowing when to buy and not worrying when they don’t sell. This is the best time of year to buy Webkinz. Most people are not shopping for toys or collectible items right now. The retail market is back-to-school. So the prices on Webkinz tend to drop during the spring and summer. But from about October to December, when people are buying for Christmas, just about every Webkinz I have listed, as long as it is competitively priced, will sell out. Certain ones, particularly the rare signature and rare retired pets, will sell as soon as they’re listed. So I buy a lot during the spring and summer, and then wait until fall to list them.
Dee – Size 4 jeans? Really? Do they make those? I may have worn a size 4 at age 4, but I’m pretty sure I graduated straight from toddler clothes to don’t ask, don’t tell. No seriously, that’s how I was brought up. If you’re overweight, diet and work out (and sneak food when nobody is looking) and do everything you can to lose weight (and internalize the shame if it doesn’t work). Maybe I just got old enough, or simply stopped caring about society’s beauty cult. I care about my weight some… but only to the extent that it affects my health. The whole idea that women should be a certain size or look a certain way or weigh a certain amount is just a social mindf—. I fluctuate between size 16-18 (US size), and I am perfectly comfortable in my (chubby) skin and my extra large clothes! And please don’t think I’m discriminating. Some women are naturally very thin, and they are beautiful too, but not because they’re thin. A woman of any size can be radiant, particularly when she’s confident in herself.
Okay… okay… I’ll get off my soapbox (for now). Back to the contest! Third clue. My pet’s name is Hippocrates (an ancient Greek physician). And she’s pink (4th clue!). I’m like totally going to post a picture of her with her purple bunny ear wig on when someone guesses her. 🙂

Chococat, only my opinion but it seems by the last sentence you have your answer — “However, I do love the job i have now, which is why i’m still there despite the awful pay” — Since your main goal right now is to have the classes you need to transfer next semester maybe you should go with what you have planned already? The stress you are already feeling about things will probably not make the semester any easier if you add a new job right now.

Jeans are the worst! — Fits in the hips, too big in the middle. And vice versa. I have ONE pair of jeans that I like and feel like they fit me well. I got them from Old Navy several years ago and they don’t make them anymore. I only wear them once in a while because they are starting to wear.
dee—The shopping center sounds really cool. But I don’t do well with big crowds either. We get invited to whatever ‘fest’ is going on downtown Cincy and dh and I are always…Yeah, but we can listen to music and drink beer/wine in our sweatpants at home! 😆

Whew! What a weekend! I don’t think I had 5 minutes completely to myself for two days. My Webkinz pets are all mad at me this morning, but I’m working on getting them back in shape.

I got 3 fridges this morning, and then realized they were the old fridge that I already had, so still working on getting that new one. I was thinking I would finally be able to relax and enjoy WackyFest, but alas, back to work! 🙂
I used to love going to Taste of Cincinnati back in the days when I worked downtown, but as I get older, I am definitely more crowd-adverse. The only Fest I haven’t made it to is their Goetta Fest in the fall, which no one here out East has any idea what I’m talking about since it is a very Cincinnati-thing. We grew up eating goetta every Saturday morning, and I’d love to see other ways they make it. One of these years, I’ll get out there for it.
Made almost $700 on the used book sale for the kids, so that’s not too bad. Have to sort and box up the remaining books tomorrow, so that will keep me busy.
Nice quiet morning here. Was going to work outside (we have had GREAT weather this weekend), but it started to drizzle early morning, so I’m staying put and making it an inside day. Have a great day everyone!

Dee – Yes, it is a breakfast meat, with bits of pork and beef mixed with oats. German immigrants who settled in Cincinnati area back in the 1800s mixed it up with spices to make their food last longer. It kind of looks like scrapple, but I tried scrapple once, and it tastes nothing like it. Ick.

Around the same time, I also bought a Frosty Fawn from thebay.com (both plush pets were sold out at Ganz eStore). Neither are adopted because I’m keeping them as collectibles ;) I believe thebay.com still has the Frosty Fawn in stock!

My lil sis hates jeans to the ends of the earth, tho I’m pretty sure she hasn’t tried a pair on in at least five years which is significant for her. I myself quite like them, especially when i find ones that i can still do the splits in (only half of my selection.) thrift shopping is usually the best way to find cool patterns.

As for where to buy webkinz I cant help there. I can’t afford to buy plush anymore especially because of the Canadian dolllar. We only have a dollar store around here that sells super old webkinz. Not that I really need more pets haha 😀

I would probably sell it if I had one since I don’t collect the plushes really anymore and I’m almost positive they will bring back those signatures as virtual only at some point.
