Each year, a garland of more than 400 red roses is sewn into a green satin backing with the seal of the Commonwealth on one end and the Twin Spires and number of the race’s current renewal on the other. Each garland is also adorned with a “crown” of roses, green fern and ribbon. The “crown,” a single rose pointing upward in the center of the garland, symbolizes the struggle and heart necessary to reach the Derby Winner’s Circle.
The Kroger Company has been the official florist of the Kentucky Derby since 1987. After taking over the duties from the Kingsley Walker florist, Kroger began constructing the prestigious garland in one of its local stores for the public to view on Derby Eve

Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure where she broke her leg during the race but continued to run….She had surgery that night but was euthanized and buried at Belmont Par with her nose pointed towards the finish line…

i WISH i knew who i was betting on moms…i remembered at 5:45ish about the derby…. went to the tv, turned it on, hit pause, came here posted… logged onto webkinz to take my pics & post… finished up youngest ds bedroroom & went back to watch it around 7:00 ish & saw a couple stories THEN i accidentally hit the active button & IT CHANGED CHANNELS!!!!!!!!! i was SO MAD & SAD & JUST….. ugggggGGGGGGGGgggggggggggg i look SO froward to the derby & i missed it all!!!! i have NO idea who did what besides what i read here. 😥 i know there are worse things, but i LOVE horse races… 😥 still sad…
