didn’t do much today. took the kids to this little island (pirate island like Andrew calls it) and only stayed there for a little bit because the tide was low and couldn’t get the boat out into the water so we all had to push……then it was showers and I actually attempted to take a nap but it didn’t work

the nap was an attempt since I was so tired and I think I was falling sleep but I could hear the kids screaming in the background. I asked Gymbob to get up and deal with them but he wanted to take nap too………you know how that is that you have to get up to do something because they don’t do it right away…….had to get up to deal with the kids while Gymbob was the one who ended up taking the nap

We have a track ball on our main computer she just can’t handle the point, click and hold on it yet. There is a mouse on the computer she uses for her games but we can’t play webkinz on it. It is an older computer set up for 486 kid games. There is a mouse on the lap top but she isn’t allowed to play on that one yet. I figure by this time next year she will be able to do stuff on her own.

Yep in no hurry for her to grow up. I enjoy having her sit in my lap while we do the stuff together. She moves from mommy and me gymnastics to regular preschool gymnastics this year. I am sad about it. Even thought it was often painful I liked doing the gymnastics with her. Her first class is this Thursday. 🙁

Yes she does lots for her especially since I got so sick. They rarely play on the computer together though. They play dolls and outside more. That is part of the reason we have so many webkinz. I pay the older one for helping out around the house and with her sister with them and they cheer me up on bad days.

The preschool teachers we have had were OK. It is primarily a play based preschool my older one is gifted and the normal preschool curriculum would of board her to tears. So I pick a school with very little academics. The little one is bright but thinks completely differently not sure what is going on with her. She likes what she likes and won’t do anything she doesn’t want to so teaching her has been challenging.

We had a big problem in K last year. She could read at the beginning of the year and really didn’t learn much all year. She had a first year teacher who was just terrible. We tried to help her and said please give her some extra challenging work, but she didn’t really do anything special. What a shame!

Sberry’s Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers were like that. We moved her to a gifted program in 2nd. Much better than before but she has still gotten lazy. She known less now in some areas than she did when she was 6 and I was supplementing her school work. I wish they would of challenged her in math more she was doing 6th grade work back in 1st grade at home. Now she still at the same level four years later.

I totally agree, I think she knew alot more before she started K. Her teacher yelled a lot and never smiled. I don’t think she should teach k. I wish I could find an answer. Gifted and Talented programs have been cut since the no child left behind program started.

That stinks. I attend the same training functions as early elementary teachers sometimes and I have heard lots of complaints about it and read articles how the no child left behind has cause a reduction in the scores of the smarter kids. That this was bad because they were the future doctors and engineers and stuff and did we want them getting a watered down education.

Yes she tested in 1st grade and moved to the gifted program for 2nd. She gets to stay until 6th and then tests again for 7th. I don’t think she will stay in the program but there are advance placement classes in the regular school she will be eligible for.

I will test the little one sometime between Kindergarten and 2nd just depends on when she is ready. Everyone in the school district is tested in 3rd grade but the test is different than for the younger ones.

I read an article in “Time” about this and the budget for Gifted and Talented was cut over 80%. These gifted children are going to be the ones to save the world and find solutions to all the problems we are having. Why, Why would you want to spend all the money on helping children who probably won’t do that much better anyway. I would love to see someone start a group in our community to help these children. It upsets me that teachers seem to have no clue on how to supplement their work and add more challenging activities.

My older one will most likely do something artistic or teach but the little one thinks so much I suspect she will go into engineering or science. The other day the preschooler tells me boys are mainly engineers. Where in the world she picked that up from. I run a child care program in my home and some of the educational programs are the same for us and people who teach through 3rd grade. I have a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. But I got really sick with asthma several years ago and was told not to work around chemicals and microbes any more. I wanted to stay home when I had kids anyway.

Very interesting! I love teaching the little about things. I would have been a good teacher. I just heard today that if your parents have had an illness it can be carried in their genes. I would love to eat more healthy. Friends of mine have an organic farm, but they live over an hour away.

Some of the stuff wrong with me is genetic and my girls are unfortunately at risk. Many of my problems stem from my parents smoking the entire time I was growing up and the girls aren’t exposed to that so they should do better.

WE heard from one of the teachers that there may be a program for young girls over 10, that allows them to help a vet. Still looking into it. Although it is a long way off, I like to have options.
Getting them involved in something they like is so important.

My aunt had cancer 5 years ago, it run in our family. They did a gene test and everyone has been tested for that gene. My father has the gene, but luckily my brother and I don’t have it. Unfortunately, my father has gotten the same cancer that is father died from and he will be seeing a doctor for a 2nd opinion on Tuesday.

Oh no I am so sorry your dad is sick. We have a lot of cancer in our family but the only ones who got it young smoked. Both my dad’s parents died from it but they were in their late 80’s and early 90’s. My mom’s dad got Alzheimers but he was really old too.

The girls are asking me for the butterfly thing they keep advertising on TV but I told them they both had them at school and we need to wait until the spring. If we got them now they would just die when we let them lose. I got tadpoles for the Daycare kids to watch grow up one year but Sberry wasn’t even born yet then.
Not much point we should be going to bed now. Oh gee just looked at the clock after 3 definitely need to go to bed.
