2012 is going to be a year for forgiving and reuniting. I hope to have better luck with friends and other things. I hope to find old friends and make new ones. 2011 went by way too fast, and as much as i would like it to, i kind of hope that 2012 doesn’t go by as fast. I want to be able to enjoy this year as much as possible because by this time next year ill be an adult, and as happy as i probably should be about that, it worries me. I just want to enjoy this year without worrying for once.

the girl has blantantly told my son that is in her grade that she has a crush on him in the past few days – very ‘forward’ about it . . . she’s very bold with personality and about this
last night at the party, she kept cuddling up to him on the couch when the kids were watching a movie, then got him to lay next to her on a blanket later trying to cuddle up to him . . .
he’s not interested at all, so i had a talk with him about not ‘leading her on’ to think that maybe he has a crush too, that it is not appropriate at their age for any of that cuddling or anything, and especially knowing she has a crush if he does not – he was totally flattered by the attention, but he isn’t ‘into’ this girl except as a friend, so i told him why didn’t think he should let her cuddle especially if he doesn’t have a crush on her & that it could get very awkard for him playing with her & especially at school – he agreed and said he didn’t think about that, he just doesn’t want to hurt her feelings – i told him he didn’t need to be mean about it – just say that he loves being friends with her and playing with her and doesn’t want things to be awkward
they are TOO young for this! did i give him good advice? anything else i should say?

gramma – I AGREE! i’m not sure about the parents, and i don’t know them well enough to know if i should say anything
she talks about how strict her parents are, the mom ‘talks a good story’, but the kids’ behavior doesn’t ‘match’ the strictness
they are both VERY forward, not as polite or respectful as i expect mine to be – even my kids are like “i can’t believe he just walked in our house and asked you for cookies” when i was baking and the younger brother did just that . . . the girl is quite ‘mouthy’ – kind of a drama queen . . .
their parents ‘lock them out’ to ‘go play’, and they usually end up over here – which i prefer the kids to play at our house – i’m that mom where the kids like playing at our house, and i love having them – i would rather have mine here, and i would rather be able to supervise, so it’s all good with me – right now they are having to stay outside because of my recovery, but i was really surprised this week even after being back in the hospital for the doorbell to ring at 10 every morning with them coming here to play – she knows about my surgery and all . . .

Sorry or on a blanket! but still. I don’t know your DS’s age but this needs to be nipped in the bud not just with this girl but any. You might think that he’s too young but if he’s thinking about girls your gonna need to get your girlfriend/boyfriend guidelines & house rules together now. Better to be prepared early than to get blindsided. Don’t allow anyting now cuz their younger that you won’t when they’re older. Clear rules early work best. IMO

i think he doesn’t quite know how to handle it b/c he’s young and b/c my bff’s have a daughter – we met when he & their girl were in 2 year old preschool together & became INSTANT best friends
they have moved far away, but we are all still best friends – via skype, facetime, and all the electronic technology in between their visits
she is still his best friend, but from the time they were 2, they hugged, held hands, just friendly little kid best friend – so i think he is so used to having her, being able to tell her everything, he spends time with girls – his cousin, this best friend for his whole life, so i think he might not realize that he should not be SO comfortable with this girl since she is thinking differently

moms, I think your handling of the conversation was perfect. You’re obviously a very hands on mom, with a great relationship with your boys. The fact the kids play at your house at least gives you the opportunity to keep an eye on what is going on. However, if the girls’ mom isn’t having talks with her about proper behavior, you might have to say something to her(the girl) if she gets out of line while at your house? not anything accusatory, but matter of fact. You’re really good at knowing what to say and how to say it; play it by ear. Even if the parent is negligent in this area, don’t these children learn about proper and improper touching in school health class? < that's a genuine question; I don't know.
