    but… if she is a sea monster which would mean, or should mean, that she lives IN the water.. so why would she need a pond for a PSI?? and a chair and camera to catch herself??

    G’morning! cocomac, glad to see you; sorry you’re still under the weather. Me too; healthwise and actual weather, getting pounded by wind and rain down here. Hope you feel better soon. This flu really knocks the stuffin’s out of a body. Did you take Tamiflu? I think it helped me, tho’ I still ended up double pneumonia; then needed antibiotic and Prednisone. Feeling too old for this nonsense. bah

    Flowiing, sorry for the delay…thank you for the goodies! you didn’t have to send me anything, but thank you. I’ve got two more bathrooms under construction so the twa’let actually came in handy. LOL Love the fancy food too! thanks!

    JR loves playing with his Zum (red Zed). Unless you want to invest a lot of time, patience and kc, these little guys are not for you. Lots of work with little reward. Of course, if you just want one to follow your pet, go for it. I personally think they are all Bratty.

    Does Server Upgrade test in progress mean “We went home and slept in late? – We’ll turn it on when we get to work?”

    They could have something called BACKUP SERVERS!” Uninterupted Service can be a reality. The technology exixts. Does Amazon shut down for upgrades every night? No!

    My Christmas wish for Ganz would be a server system that is open 24 hours – 7 days a week. Spend the money Ganz – keep the site open for your paying customers! Please Santa – deliver a new server to Mr. Ganz. or… Mr. Ganz – include a disclaimer on the plush tags that say we really don’t get a year’s worth of webkinz internet service with each purchase! We get only 20 or less hours a day. Okay… enough venting.

    “Maintenance” possible meanings:
    We didn’t know what to use for the Asian rare, so we took the site down during that time . . .
    We are going to add a new feature to see if it works or what else it can break because we like our clients to do our testing for us and save us money on a pesky testing department . . .
    We are going to add the feature that we told you was already there even though it wasn’t so we can waggle our fingers in our ears and say, “See! It IS there!”
    We need to break something so all the items get stuck to the floors of the rooms again – just our little way of keeping things interesting.
    We are like the Zumbuddies – demand you spend your money, but we can’t promise any reward. Duh! We should have named them Ganzies . . .

    CWC – so far, I have not found any reason why you need 2 to get stuff, except maybe you spend twice as much kc and get zummies faster since you increase your chances with spoiling two of the demanding brats at the same time???

    I got nothin’ on what you and jrsdad came up with!! LOL

    I’ve been up since before 3am and got the daily’s and job in on three accounts before the server upgrade. WOW was glitched, saying I’d had my turn for the day, and Arte said I’d already gem hunted and had to wait til tomorrow. Both of which were false.

    Most of the summer WW wasn’t coming online til almost 6:30 for me. I’m lovin’ the fact with these sleepless nights I’ve been able to log in and play at 2am. Really, what else is there to do at 2am if you can’t sleep???

    When children write their letters to Santa this year, many will be skipping last year’s hot item: Webkinz. The stuffed animals were so popular last holiday season it was hard for retailers to keep the toys on their shelves. The plush dolls appealed to children and parents by linking the physical toy with a virtual world, where kids play with online versions of their personal stuffed animals and spend virtual cash to clothe and feed them.

    Since then, demand has fallen off a cliff. According to The NPD Group, sales for Web-connected play toys have plunged 41% this year through August, marking the biggest decline among the 13 categories tracked by the market research firm, which provided its data to DailyFinance. The drop-off was so stark that at least two retailers disclosed the dwindling sales of Webkinz as drags on their performance in recent earnings calls.

    “They were tremendous and they were a fad, so it looks like it’s gone through a cycle,” said Dan Crow, chief financial officer of Hastings Entertainment (HAST).

    Customer frustration with Webkinz site crashes, the recession and market saturation — think dozens of the toys already collecting dust in kids’ rooms — have taken the stuffing out of toy’s sales. Susan McVeigh, a spokeswoman for Webkinz manufacturer Ganz, a closely held company, declined to comment for this article.

    Hastings, which disclosed the plunge in Webkinz sales during its second-quarter conference call in August, declined to disclose the exact drop-off. The company will report third-quarter results on Monday. And TweenBrands (TWB), which owns the Justice chain of girls’ clothing stores, said in August that its 12% decline in comparable second-quarter store sales was partly due to lower sales of Webkinz.

    “The Kids Already Have 50 of Them”

    It’s a far cry from the halcyon days for the plushies, which sell for roughly $10 to $15 each. The toys burst onto the scene in 2005, one of the first lines to combine a physical plaything with an online world. Like that earlier stuffed animal fad, Beanie Babies, Webkinz have been issued in dozens of varieties, starting with fairly simple animals such as cats and dogs in its initial year. More recent varieties have included exotic species such as “Rainforest Boa” and a “Green Seadragon.”

    “Webkinz was the first to do a hybrid product, and it took off like a rocket,” said Richard Gottlieb, CEO of USA Toy Experts, a consulting company based in New York. “But new people have been coming into the business,” he added.

    It’s not only rival hybrid stuffies from toy lines such as Groovy Girls competing with Webkinz, but free online games that have taken market share away from the toys, he said. Club Penguin, from Walt Disney (DIS), for one, offers free online games to the same age group. And in a recession, many parents are choosing to go the free route.

    “The kids already have 50 of them,” said Justin Watkins, the owner of Webkinzinsider.com, a Website dedicated to tracking the online world. “People are still buying them, but not as much,” he said, adding that some of the people visiting his site have hundreds or even thousands of the toys.

    And parents and kids got frustrated with Webkinz site crashes and stalls. Frustrated users vented about difficulties getting onto the site through consumer forums such as My3Cents.com, or on sites like this one, at which a parent documented the traffic message encountered by his daughter on Christmas morning 2007.

    This Year, Classic Toys Are Strongest Sellers

    The plunge in sales has resulted in a glut of Webkinz in retailers’ inventories. KidsTown, a high-end children’s retailer based in Burlington, Vt., was selling the toys on clearance ($4 for a white dog Webkinz) this fall.

    “Those are leftover from the heyday,” said Tina Uzomba, buyer and operations manager for the store, one of the largest specialty toy retailers in New England. “We used to order 12 dozen at a time or more, because you couldn’t keep them in stock.” For this holiday season, she estimates she’ll order two dozen because “I want to guarantee I’ll get rid of them.”

    But Uzomba noted that Webkinz sales aren’t the only ones being affected this year. Because of the recession, she has seen overall sales for her store decrease dramatically. Yet some items remain popular, she added. Which ones? Staples such as books, games and arts and crafts.

    That’s borne out by data from NPD. While overall sales of U.S. toys slipped 2% this year through August, arts and crafts, board games and building sets were among the categories with sales increases, the research company said.

    Ganz has reacted by selling online-only pets as a way to reduce its reliance on sales of physical toys, said Webkinzinsider.com’s Watkins. But Ganz is now competing with other companies which have more resources, such as Disney, Watkins added. “I don’t think it’ll ever become as popular as it once was,” he said.

    too many repeat pets… this will make 4 penguins and none of them different species… another german shepard in the works… the panda, the raccoon… yeah the sigs are cute.. though the quality continues to go down with the plushies and the PSI’s…

    PSI’s that are not really FOR the pet, PSI’s that the pet can’t interact with… lame..

    the howling rock for the timber wolf, he can sit on it but has to get off and walk away to do any of the gestures.. BUT a pet can do the gestures in bed, in a chair, etc… so why NOT on the rock?

    too many treadmills, too many bath tubs (so now a toilet?? tss)

    Thanks Krafty. It’s been two weeks and a day since my first symptoms. Doing better, for sure; not a patient patient.

    Haven’t found what I’m after at Target or Walmart. There’s a Fadz store in the mall that I can usually find the odd webbie. dd2 also told me of a store in our local area that has tons of webbies. Got sick before I had a chance to check it out. Also might have to resort to online to complete my sets. I need the Albino, Fresian, and Black Stallion horses. The Grey&White, and Charcoal cats. mmmm, there was somebody else, can’t think at the moment.

    On my shopping list above, forgot to mention Moose. dd2 is getting him for me for Christmas.

    I have all the cats ‘cept the Gray&White and the Charcoal. Not interested in pink&white or cheeky. Amazon has the Black Stallion. When I typed in Black Fresian, the Black Stallion came up again. Strange tho’. The Black Stallion was, I believe, an Arabian, not a Fresian; two completely different breeds. Also decided to pass on The Horse. The chestnut coloring looks like my gelding did, but the virtual is NOT a horse, she’s distinctly ‘mare’.

    as for the article…i would say it is dead on!!! i LOVE webkinz (you have to?? if your gonna deal with all the junk that ganz puts us through??) 😯 but i can totally see where people can & will give up on them?? but…….there are die hards (not to mention any names hehe) that will go the distance…for a while anyway. i know i have WAY too much put into these little pixels??as does soooooo many people!! it goes back to that saying….all good things must come to an end?? i dont think we have anything to worry about gramma. i dont see ganz shutting down anytime soon??? 😕
